and who else, scooter rowe and the giants are won the pennant. >> the rain was pouring down as the giants completed their national league championship series comeback, they won three elimination games culminating last night with a 9-0 victory over the st. louis cardinals in game seven. the giants were early with a five run -- they will face detroit in the world series. marco studero was named mvp. most of his hits came after he was hit hard in game 2. the giants acquired the 36-year-old from the colorado rockies at the trade deadline. you can see the rain pouring down but that didn't stop the euphoria of winning the national league pennant.

it swept through san francisco and beyond. giants fans ecstatic as they took to the street. tara moriarty is at at&t park. i would imagine they are sleeping at this point. >> reporter: seems like all is quiet out here. a word to the wise, perhaps the detroit tigers might want to consider not taking a three game lead over the giants in the world series. just kidding but wow, what a game last night. 40,000 fans were drenched from the downpour at the end of the game but didn't care. no amount of rain was going to keep them from seeing the giants clench their division, this after being down three games to one in the is series against the cardinals, the electricity in the stands, in the coffee cove and in the streets was palpable. >> we are back in the world series and we are going to win

gear at 6:00 a.m. we are going to have continuing coverage of the giants trip to the world series throughout the morning. coming up, how san francisco police are planning to handle another big event in the city. well, in overnight news, firefighters in oakland are trying to figure out what caused a car to go up in flames. this is a live picture from the scene right now. the car was parked in the lower level parking lot of an apartment building there on fruitvale avenue right near east 16th street. about a dozen people had to be evacuated from the building but no one was hurt. firefighters still on the scene, though, investigating. ktvu channel 2 news reporter allen savage is there and a report coming up at 9:00. a crash shut down all lanes of northbound 680 near pleasnaton overnight. the driver of a big rig was headed down the sunol grade. the road was closed for more

than two hours while crews cleaned up the wreck and the oil that was spilled on the roadway. the driver of the big rig received minor injuries, no other cars involved. the chp now trying to figure out if the driver was going too fast for the weather conditions. in election 2012, president obama and mitt romney head back out on the campaign trail after their third and final debate last night. the two men sparred over foreign policy issues including u.s. policy in the middle east, trade policies with china and the challenge of iran's nuclear program. they disagreed on u.s. military spending with romney criticizing president obama's plan for defense budget cuts. >> we've got to strengthen our military long term. we don't know what the world is going to throw at us down the road. we make decisions today in a military that will confront challenges we can't imagine. >> our military spending has gone up every single year that i've been in office. we spend more on our military than the next 10 countries combined, china, russia,

france, the united nations, you name it. >> the candidates now head into a two-week sprint to election day. this morning president obama has a campaign event in florida before heading out to join vice president joe biden at a rally in ohio. mitt romney is campaigning with his running mate paul ryan in nevada and colorado. here in the bay area, both democrats and republicans held debate watch parties. in san rafael people gathered at the democratic campaign headquarters and the republican headquarters which are a few blocks apart. people at both camps believe their candidate came out ahead. >> i think president obama is articulate, fair and clear and i think he has experience clearly in foreign policy matters and governor romney has no experience whatsoever and it comes out loud and clear. >> obama seems to get around without being specific. romney is much more specific.

>> according to a cnn poll following the debate, president obama came out the winner, 48% of those surveyed say the president won the match-up compared to 40% for mitt romney. time now is 4:35. in just a few hours apple is expected to unvale a new product that could be a mini tablet. sources say the ipad mini will have a screen that's slightly smaller than 8 inches and will sell for about $250. that would make it slightly larger and a little more expensive than the perceived rivals. the official announcement comes at 10:00 this morning in san jose. kids at washington elementary in san jose are hoping to raise awareness of pedestrian safety on their way to school this morning. students, parents and teachers are participating in international walk to school month. between 2007 and 2009, washington elementary ranked third out of 406 santa clara county schools in terms of

the seventh i got a little nervous. i think it came in the 8th inning. our system continues to rotate around, a little band. some of the shower activity could be brief heavy but some areas won't get anything yet there's a good line coming in at us and you can see some of that moving south and also east. it was coming down about 1:00 in the morning. up in the sierra nevada snow continues, winter storm warning continues there until 11:00 this morning but last time i checked blue canyon tahoe, truckee snowing for hours. 46 in sonoma county airport. cool readings once we get rid of the clouds and some of the rain. today 40s and right at 50. the moisture continues to be funneled in. most of this looks to be lifting a little bit towards the north bay. a lot of clouds, some sun, showers, some of these possibly could trigger in thunderstorm activity. if we get enough breaks in the clouds, a breezy and cool day.

60s, low to mid. another cool day. showers on wednesday and then clear it out thursday except for the valley fog, you know, not coastal fog but at that time of the year when you get the first rain. except for that, sunny and warmer friday into saturday. today the alameda county sheriff's office will release the name of a woman found dead in a house fire in castro valley last week. it started early last thursday morning and fire crews discovered her body once the flames were out. both the fire and the woman's death are suspicious. they are helping for the public's help in solving this case. the home belonged to a retired san francisco firefighter who has not been named as a suspect. time now, 4:39. a man is recovering after he was set on fire. what police are saying about the attack. plus, it wasn't just rain. severe weather hit northern california. the damage caused by several possible tornados near

still rain moving through, highs today very cool under mostly cloudy skies and off and on showers, 60s. welcome back. now 4:42. a 94-year-old woman in the hospital fighting for her life after she was violently attacked by a man over the weekend in san francisco's china town. police say it happened saturday night at stockton and sacramento streets and that the man started punching the woman in her head for no apparent reason. she is in the hospital with a possible skull fracture. the man was arrested on assault charges. opening statements begin today in the trial of frederick dozier. he's accused of raping, beating and robbing three women in san francisco's mission district between june and december of

last year. police say each attack was more vicious than the last. a citizen's tip led to dozier's arrest in january. a rare tornado caused some damage north of sacramento. take a look at this video of a funnel cloud that touched down, that was about 3:15 yesterday afternoon near yuba city in sutter county. the twister caused downed trees and powerlines but no one was hurt. a storm survey team will be out there later today. and this is the aftermath of a possible tornado in sacramento county, strong winds knocked over that truck trailer in elk grover around -- elk grove around 5:00 yesterday afternoon. the wind knocked down fences and several rooftops. and back to our continuing coverage of the new national league champions. san francisco police are prepared for the world series and we caught up with chief greg sur who was working at last night's game. >> we've had huge celebratory

crowds. that world series two years ago was off the hook. we didn't have any problems at all and we don't anticipate any this year and we want to have another parade. >> chief sur says his department will put its world series plan into action today. he says they just need to quote dust it off from two years ago. now, with advanced tickets sold out fans hoping to see the giants in the world series are turning to online brokers. about 8500 tickets are available on stub hub for games one and two, ranging from $400 for standing room only to more than 44 thousand dollars. more seats are up for grabs on craigslist where spots behind home plate are going for about 2000. you can see the entire world series, though, here with us on ktvu channel 2 news beginning with game one tomorrow. a special addition of our ktvu news at 4:00, followed by the pregame show at 4:30 and then first pitch will be just after 5:00. 4:45 is the time. sal, you were there last night,

for the first rain of the season. ground sucked it right up, though. you can tell because it's been so dry for so long but moisture continues to be funneled in here so another active day. the main line is moving south. the one that went over us about two, three hours ago just to the east of us in san jose. a lot of this looks to be lifting a little bit towards the north bay. so far more bark than bite but definitely shower activity today. 40s and 50s on the temps, 51 antioch, so everyone really close. the moisture continuing to be funneled in and the sierra nevada continues to stack up with the snow. in fact, it's been snowing for 24 hours so sun, clouds, showers, occasionally some possible thundershowers again so we can get some breaks in those clouds, a little afternoon heating even though not that warm. 60s on the temps, low, mid. everyone will be same ballpark today. hold onto a few showers on wednesday, then clear it out thursday. there's going to be that inland fog popping up and some very cool lows but overall the days will be sunny and warm as we go

into the weekend. >> thank you, steve. jury deliberations will continue today in the trial of a woman accused of killing east bay nursing student michelle lei. prosecutors say javella sivan esteban killed her last year. a concord teenager received the maximum sentence for running down and killing two bicyclists earlier this year. prosecutors say the 18-year-old driver was speeding when he hit a man and his 9-year-old daughter. he pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving because he was 17 at the time of the crash, he was sentenced to seven years in a juvenile facility but he will likely be released in about three years when he turns 21. 4:48. police in vallejo think some kind of ahallucinogenic drugs could be what led to the city's most recent police-involved

shooting. ktvu obtained this video of 29- year-old jeremiah moore who is on the left and then 28-year- old jason jesse on the right. police say the men were naked when they broke car windows, tried to set their home on fire and killed their pet birds. moore was later killed when police say he put a loaded rifle to an officer's stomach. >> that they did what they had to because with a crazy man shoving a rifle in your belly, that is serious, that means no other action was possible. >> police are now waiting for toxicology results. moore's mother said her son was a good man and had asperger's syndrome. this is vallejo's 10th officer- involved shooting this year, six have been deadly. police in long beach are searching for a man who set another man on fire with a molotov cocktail. that attack was caught on tape. surveillance video shows the victim engulfed in flames. good samaritans helped put out

the fire. police say the attack happened outside a market on friday night and that it appears to be random. the victim is listed in serious but stable condition. time now, 4:49. at this hour u.s. astronaut kevin ford and two russian cosmonauts headed to the international space station aboard a soy ruiz so soyuz rocket. it will take them two days to reach the station where they will join the current three residents. they are taking experiments and supplies with them. 4:50 now the time. it's been nearly two months since a vallejo man and his pregnant girlfriend were killed in their home. the reward now being offered in the unsolved case. plus, new information on that deadly shooting rampage at a wisconsin spa. the tougher legislation lawmakers are now calling for.

welcome back. lawmakers are calling for can tougher gun rules following sunday's deadly shooting rampage at a milwaukee area spot. the killer shot seven women killing his estranged wife and two others before shooting himself. haughton had a history of violence. supporters of people killed with confrontations with police took to the streets in oakland yesterday. >> stop police brutality. >> carrying signs and blowing whistles the group marched peacefully downtown, among them the uncle of oscar grants and the family of ibrahim shaw of hayward. >> we want to know exactly what happened with that cop and we want to make sure that justice is served for my nephew.

>> now, the family of romero came from vallejo as well. he died in a confrontation with police while carrying a pellet gun. allen blueford's family also marched. he was shot in okayed during a foot -- oakland during a foot chase. police in fremont are looking for the man who robbed a bank. investigators say the man was wearing a ski mask and carrying a gun when he went into the wells fargo on fremont boulevard at about 5:00 yesterday evening. he ordered everyone on the ground, demanded money and then ran. police say he can get away with an undisclosed amount of cash. officers searched nearby neighborhoods and say they recovered what looked like a machine gun but turned out to be a fake weapon. it is now 4:54. we definitely still have some wet roads out there this morning. so let's check in with sal for a look at traffic. >> you're absolutely right. the roads are still a little bit wet, although the traffic so far looks pretty good out there. let's go out and take a look at what we have. this is highway 24 westbound

between walnut creek and oakland, a nice drive for you so far but still a little bit wet. you might see standing water in places. at the toll plaza, it is light, a couple of puddles here and there, no trouble on the actual bridge getting into san francisco. and if you're driving on the hayward commute traffic looks pretty good, no major problems in san jose right now on northbound 101 or on the peninsula for that matter if you're trying to catch a flight. 4:54. let's go to steve. >> thank you. our system to the north is an apparent low right there, continues to rotate in moisture and some of that is really intense especially down towards -- well, south of san jose, in between san jose and gilroy, maybe moving into gilroy and morgan hill where it's been coming down pretty good right there. still some areas getting moderate to heavy rain and really kind of sliding very slowly east and south. the coverage continues. this is close to the radar site so it enhances it a little bit but you get the idea, still plenty going on especially towards san jose and points east and south. the sierra nevada, it's

girlfriend. deshawn jones and ashley mills were gunned down inside their home on atherton street on september 6th. police say the couple was targeted and that neighbors saw two men running from the scene. mills was expecting twins so police are treating the case as having four victims. investigators plan to announce a $10,000 reward leading to an arrest and conviction. a modesto police sergeant facing child molestation charges. 40-year-old robert hostages was arrested yesterday -- hodges was arrested yesterday hours after the -- molesting a girl and his family in 2009 and 2010. he's a 15-year veteran of the police department and has been placed on administrative leave during this investigation. coming up next in our 5:00 hour, the never say die giants now heading to the world series after a big win last night. giants t-shirts, baseball caps the hottest items in town. in other news, a car went up in flames outside an east
